The trailer starts with loud haunting music with a male voice narrating as if a documentary.
The short shots make it appear as if the audience will be going on the journey the reverends went on trying to perform an exorcism. The music gets louder and more threatening, whilst the clips get shorter and flick to stills of close up clips of a girl, the father with a gun, back to the girl, blurred dark images and then to the reverend showing facial reactions. This gives a brief picture of the characters and heightens the tension. Unsteady camerawork make it look like the situation is out of control gives a sense of insecurity. Some editing techniques have been used such as tints of red which signifies blood and danger. These clear techniques are a clear indication this film is a horror genre.
The text is kept short and sharp in quite an old traditional font which is presented fairly small in the middle of a black screen. This slowly moves towards the viewer and then fades to another clip. This gives a brief narration and finally ends with the name of the film. This is effective because you are more likely to remember the name at the end once you have been drawn into this haunting trailer.
Trailer Two - Salt
This trailer starts with quiet music with short close up shots fading in and out of people, with a male’s voice commenting on the situation and ‘Salt’ played by Angelina Jolie observing; the main shots to start are of ‘Salt’ silent. It is portraying her as a strong woman in charge, intelligent and very capable. It then moves the story on and indicated that the table is turned and the hunter becomes the hunted. The music becomes louder and picks up pace the shots are fast moving showing action stunts of the highly trained ‘Salt’ trying to avoid capture. This draws the audience into the unfolding situation of this action movie.
They have used an attractive woman, who is athletic to help entice the male viewers into wanting to see more of her moves.
Narratives are displayed intermittently and are all in 3D, in a steel colour with the words moving away from the audience, enticing them in further. It asks a question that cannot be answered unless you watch the film. The name of the film is displayed at the end and then when the film is showing so this date becomes more memorable.
This trailer shows short clips of different stages of the film focusing on two main characters and the situations and actions they encounter along the way. The starting music sets the theme as comical action genre.
It starts with ‘June’ played by Cameron Diaz trying to tell what has happened to her, it shows how she first bumps into Tom Cruise’s character ‘a secret agent gone bad’ and then how he takes control of her life, taking her into dangerous situations that she does not know what to do in, her reactions and comments are comical.
It show the film contains humour, indicates a romance as well as stunts and high energy action. The actor’s and film name flick up at the end of the trailer appearing in the middle of a black screen in a big bold clear font. This is strong and stands out to make you remember it.
